Whats goes on everyday, Stardock Forums, life, and all

I bought Company of Heroes recently when it was on sale because of all the good reviews. The campaign provides good narrative and decent mission structure, but man, playing skirmishes, I'm starting to think I wasted my money. The pace is WAY too fast, and playing as the Americans, the German army has some really unfair advantages (they have better, well, everything). The whole concept seems off to me. Instead of constructing buildings that produce resources, you have go around the map and secure points to get resources, which really takes away from having big battles at focused areas. Apparently you have to move so fast and click so much you can't even watch the battles. And this is on easy difficulty.

What am I doing wrong that is preventing me from enjoying this game? I think my mind works differently from others because I like to take my time and make decisions, and then watch as the battle is fought (which is why I like Total War so much). Any suggestions to help me enjoy this supposedly incredible game would be appreciated, because I feel like I wasted my money on this. If I hadn't bought this on Steam, it would be boxed back up and on Ebay.

I never really bothered with MP on this one as well, though I know quite a few people that enjoy it.  It has a reasonably long campaign mode, so hopefully that's worth the price of admission for you (and hope you got a good deal).

I couldn't stand the standard gameplay either. My beef was more with the realism, but the gameplay was faster than I liked, too. Try some mods?

Haha I love it when people portray their own inexperience with a game as "X has OP everything!". Just play more, sheesh.

This is one of my favorite games of all time.

Do yourself a favour. Grab a friend and play coop vs two AI.

Playing against humans is good, I enjoy it. But really I want to relax and have good fun on skype with a mate knowing that

I am not letting the team down if  I do not pay 150% attn to it.

The sides are NOT unbalanced.

It does get easier, to a point at least. PM if you want. I would be happy to have a coop game with you.

The thing is, all games nowadays are fast paced, especially strategy games, and I not a big fan of fast paced either.

Seriously, man. The state of the RTS genre is in a rut these days. Make me want to take some game design classes, learn how to use the Unity engine, and design a badass space combat RTS that's slow paced, no base building, true tactics centric, and just allows you you take in the moment and watch shit blow up without having to jump across the map and issue orders like ADHD chipmunk that downed a bottle of caffeine pills. Since Relic won't develop Homeworld 3, this just might take its place if I ever actually put my ideas into motion. Hell, a game about digging blocks (Minecraft) sold 5 million copies!

Got Homeworld 2? Try the Complex mod.

The complex mod sounds very interesting, but I can't a find a place that sells Homeworld 2. Steam doesn't have it, and Good Old Game oddly does not have it either. I can always pirate it, but I really don't feel like it.
