As you may have heard, part of South Park's newest episode has been censored because it talks about the Prophet Muhammed and shows him in a bear suit, joking about the fact that Muhammed can't be shown in a picture. Now Muslim groups are making threats to South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and Comedy Central caved in and censored part of the episode.

Reading the story just pissed me off. Political Correctness (also known as double standards) has run amok. Why can Muslim extremists hold signs that say "Death to America", or "Butcher all Jews", but people can't show a picture of Muhammad or criticize Islam? It's ridculous. Ever since 9/11 the Muslim World has been pushing the West around with their intolerant beliefs.

South Park aired an episode in July 2001 that showed Muhammed uncensored, and no one really made a huge deal out of it. Plus, the newest episode shows things that people would find much more offense, like Jesus watching porn and the Hindu god sniffing cocaine. Muhammed just stands around in a freaking bear costume. Comedy Central censored the show for millions because of the demands of a certain group of people that could have just not watched the show.

Ridiculous. Hope South Park moves to a channel that is less PC (Politically Correct).

South Park mocked all religions, but only Muslims are pissed.

I read about that. Not only did Hitler create the Holocaust, he essentially started the Muslim-Jewish conflict. Before WWII, Muslims generally put up with Jews.

Arab-Jewish conflict.

The non-Arab Muslims in the Middle-East usually don't hate Jews and often admire Israel for having survived the Arab attacks. (Remember that all small non-Arab nations except Israel in the ME are ruled by Arab regimes.

Islam originated in the Middle east, and when most people think about Islam, they associate it with that region.  I know that at one time Pakistan (pre 1971) was the largest Muslim nation and now Indonesia enjoys that status, and neither are Arabian.  And most of the terrorists do appear to come from the ME region.

But what causes a lot of heartburn among non-Islam people is the fact that when a Fatwa comes out that is totally ridiculous, there is not an outcry of repudiation from the more peaceful areas of Islam.  Perhaps we are expecting too much from the rest of Islam.  But it would go a long way in marginalizing the terrorists if their actions were universally condemned by those that do not believe Islam is a religion of hatred and war.

An attack on a nut case Christian is not met with a "circling of the wagons" by all Christians around the nut job.  And most sects do go out of their way to condemn the actions of the nutjobs.  Islam is a relatively new religion.  It could do well to learn from those that made mistakes before it did.

No, they don't, and no, it isn't.
...
It is a typical assumption of people coming from a Christian background that religions are usually about proclaiming themselves the one true faith, whereas that is really only true for Christianity (and Islam to a lesser degree).

So, no, all religions do not proclaim that their faith is the one true faith.

And no, it is not unfair to attack Islam (or Christianity) over this particularly unpleasant attribute which Islam (and Christianity) has and other religions do not.

Thank you for taking the time to reply, and to do so intelligently.  I find it interesting that you've listed several religions that make mention to other faiths; Judism, for example.  Both Christianity and Judism teach that the Jews are considered, for lack of a better term, clean, while Christians are unclean - they're still acceptable, however they're not the cream of the crop, so to speak.  Islam teaches that anyone who breaks the rules of their religion - such as committing murder, or drinking alcohol - is considered unclean, however they too are still welcome in Heaven should they repent.  A path to God, however twisted, is still a path in the right direction.  However, each of those religions teach that their ways are still the best ways - the true ways - despite there being other ways that are also acceptable.  Perhaps I should have chosen my words more carefully.

...As for the other major discussion, Christianity is definetely not a poster child of good religion. Christians have commited many, many horrible acts, ranging from the Inquisition to stealing the land of American Indians and kidnapping their children to be sent to "Chrisitian Schools", where they were horribly treated. All this in the name of God. Some people also include the Holocaust, but Hitler really wasn't a Christian by the time he was in power. He actually called a "religion of weakness".

Let's sum it up in three words. Organized religion sucks.

Let's refine that: People suck.  Organised religion has absolutely no issues of any kind... in theory.  Once you apply the blind ambition of men and women, zealots as  they're called, things get messy.  Blaming things on religion rather the morons who twist it to meet their own ends causes more problems than is needed.
