Whats goes on everyday, Stardock Forums, life, and all

Does anyone know what the deal is with the edit button? It keeps disappearing and reappearing.

I'm sure everyone finds this a pain in the ass because you can't edit your replys most of the time. I mean, sure, it sometimes shows, but most of the time it is missing.

This is really annoying. Kryo? Any moderator? Do any of you know what the deal is with this?

THANK YOU!!!!! Finally someone bsides me has brought this up! I don't like these forums... They aggrivate me.

I believe a time limit was set on editing in one of the more recent updates, though I can't personally attest to any behavior it may be having now since I can edit anything at any time. Is what you're seeing inconsistent with that?

At times I have seen no edit button on a brand new post, so I can verify what the opening OP states. TBH, I don't find these forums user friendly in general. For example, there is no preview feature (unless I am missing it), the quote function does not state which poster you are quoting, and the reproduction of the opening post on each page of a multi-page thread is annoying (and unnecessary), especially for a long post with graphics.

Edit--OK, the edit button was there

I agree 100% with you, Marlowe.

I agree with Marlowe. A furter complaint about the quote button is it does not keep line breaks and paragraphs. The post you quote is just one run-on block of text.

As well, I'd like to see the 'recent posts' section on the front page show the name of the person that last posted. I find it often doesn't update right away after I've posted, then when I come back the thread I posted in is in the list and I click on it to see what replies have been posted since mine, and it's my own post sitting there.

As for the edit button, it didn't appear on my last 2 or 3 posts on the boards. It's sporadic and unpredictable at best.

*edit* And, of course, after complaining, it now appears. Heh.

And, to add to this, the forums are REALLY REALLY SLOW! So much so, that I have to refresh my browser after I make a post sometimes. The bad thing about that, though, is that duplicate posts appear everywhere.

I also really miss the quote on quote.

When you quote someones post that already have a quote on it, it gets all messed up.

Oh and the dear oh dear smilieys... Those we have asked to be fixed for over a year (

So dont expect it to be fixed anytime soon (

I don't see an edit button either, but, we all get what we pay for, and these forums are free, so I don't mind too much.

(I'm using the editing button that showed up after this post to edit this message)

I agree here for sure.

EDIT: the edit button lives here though it's vanished on me before.

Yeah, I think it's rigged that the edit button appears in this thread.
on Jun 04, 2008
The edit button only disapears if you totally mess up your post. If you get it right, then it show up.

I'm not certain about any time limit per se, but the edit button will disappear (and always has) when another post is added to the thread. I'm sure that this is intended behavior.

The issue at hand: The edit button should appear immediately along with a new reply. It did up until a fairly short time ago, but does not now. It *will* appear eventually, taking anywhere from a few seconds to many minutes to do so. (Much more often the latter anymore.) If someone adds a reply behind, before it appears, one cannot edit at all.

This is tied in, I believe, to another recent behavior change- the amount of time it takes for a reply to be added from the thread onto the front page. When I first started visiting these forums, it would take quite some time for this to happen. When the forums were updated, things were sped up considerably. Unfortunately, things seem to have reverted back to the pre-update times. This happened ~the same time as the edit button problem cropped up.

So, in a nutshell (from personal observations): The edit button will only appear once the reply makes it onto the front page. This can take some time- and if a member doesn't have the patience or persistence to wait it out, then it will seem as if it had never shown up at all. And, if someone comes along and replies before this has had time to happen, the button will never show up, and the reply in question can't be edited at all.

EDIT: The edit button appeared immediately as my reply showed up in this thread. Maybe the problem has been fixed. (crosses fingers)

EDIT#2: This reply showed up on the front page almost immediately.

I've noticed the same thing and possibly an additional coincidence. If I close my browser after posting (it clears the cache and Cookies on exit) and reopen, the reply and edit button show up as soon as I load the page (most of the time).

-or-

If I travel to the thread via a different route (like going through "My Replies" instead of the forum index) it'll show up immediately and the post will be there when I visit the thread. I've gotten this to happen where I can see the updated thread with my new post via "My replies", but when I go to the thread via the forum index (immediately afterwards) it will still load the thread sans the new post.

I wonder if, for whatever reason, there is a cookie or something that is essentially, saying "You saw this page 5 minutes ago, just reload from the cache" or something to that effect.

I can't recall the last time i saw the Edit button. Brad and Co, these forums "updates" sure are taking a long time, these forums have not been user friendly for a very long time.
