The street celebrations were a little off-putting, given how offended & distressed I was at the way the 'Arab street' celebrated 9-11.  I've had no sense of excitement at this news, no urge to celebrate at all, just relief and gratitude.

At least they weren't firing Kalashnikovs into the air.

Agreed.

The following article says it all as far as I'm concerned.

That is spot on, Monk.  The number of people engaging in those displays was rather small, especially the Times Square bunch, but the media played them up shamelessly, giving the world a very skewed impression.  You didn't see many 'grayhairs' out there.

Then again, maybe the media played up the 'Arab street' celebrations after 9/11, too.

Not that I'm trying to defend the crowds or anything but I think this editorial is reading a bit too much into it. Honestly I think the recent USA demonstrations are closer to their counterparts after the moon landings than anything else. People are just happy that their country has finally completed a goal which it had set for itself a decade ago, that the goal happened to be the death of a man instead of a scientific endeavor is just a sign of the times I'm afraid.

what good is politicizing this going to do for Obama?  Absolutely nothing.   "Its the economy, Stupid!"

I'm happy about it, but I also personally think that this does nothing to lessen the threat of terrorism around the world.

He's done.

I think even that's reading too much into it - people weren't celebrating anything more than a chance to get drunk on a Sunday night.

Edit: Weird. The forums decided that my post would look better in monospace.

Considering it was used by Clinton the last time around (the last time used), I am a bit surprised you are pulling for them.
