Bit Torrent is ridiculously slow. I'm getting averages of 6.0 kb/s. It's taking fucking forever, and I'm pissed because I have really fast internet. (Another reason not to pirate games, takes forever with Torrents.) Does anyone know how to increase torrent speeds?

if you want the torrent to run faster, first you meed to set the download  bandwith to max or unlimited.  then you need to turn upload off.  also it is best to let the torrent run at night

use Utorrent, it is faster.  better yet, if you have friends who have a business internet, use theirs for download.

I have friend who owns an internet cafe, he pays X amount of money  per year to get accessed to a server that have 1000s of games, whichever game he wants, he can get.  If there is something that i can't buy at store or i need it really fast, i just get him to download it for me, otherwise, i just go buy the thing.

Telling people to delete their win32 folder is not nice.

I think its funny.  Sadly, windows won't let you completely mess it up that way (at least no modern version.  windows ME might, because I swear it deleted itself sometimes), without at least some back-door like booting up another OS

I don't think he was saying torrents are bad with that statement.  I'm pretty sure he was just making a joke.  In theory, if you removed all those pesky Win32 files, you'd have more memory available for torrents.

If you're experiencing issues with Bit Torrent speeds, head over here. This thread was created to trouble shoot issues with Demigod multiplayer, however as Demigod uses P2P for that, it works for Bit Torrent as well. The solution that fixed my Demigod multiplayer also fixed my Bit Torrent speeds.

I just download during the day. More people are seeding then anyway.

dare I say it, porn (why would you WANT to buy some of that stuff?

Thank you for the excellent idea.

Also, use MuTorrent. Small memory footprint, very configurable. Check your port forwarding. Check that your ISP is not throttling download speeds for peer to peer sharing. Check your firewall settings. If you use a router, check that its configured properly. And finally, leave a torrent running for at least 15-30 minutes before deciding if its too slow. Sometimes a torrent client needs some time to link up with all the peers to get you a high net download speed.

Torrents =/= Piracy.  It's a good way to distrubute legal stuff (big pathes, Linux Distros).  Torrents have been painted with the broadest brush possible, to the point when anyone says 'torrent' they assume you are pirating.

Yes a good way for a company to save money on bandwidth. The FOSS boys have been doing it for years.

@OP It just depends on the seeders and the saturation of the data. If its legal there will be dedicated servers and more people prepared to give up some bandwidth. Other and dare I say pirated, tend to have less. You get what you pay for.

Something to read and this
