Whats goes on everyday, Stardock Forums, life, and all
I see people with higher "access levels" than other people, like "Journeyman" over "Citizen". How do you go up, and what stuff can you do when you have higher access?

IIRC, they are granted by Stardock for service to the community or other notable achievements.

That's precisely what it takes. Being helpful.

Interesting.

I'm not sure which sites are mixed in with which. It seems higher levels of access do have some meaning at least on wincustomize. On galciv2, higher levels of access really don't provide access to much of anything.

There is an area that's accessible by levels Diplomat and above which correlates to the Master Apprentice (3) level, but no one has posted anything there for 6 months and it appears you can no longer post to it. Wasn't much of a benefit in any case.

The bottom line is that if the point of what you do is to gain some kind of recognition for your "good deeds" then perhaps you're not so deserving after all.

Once again you start about how bad and rotten I am...

You assume the worst when that was not what I intended.

I merely stated that you get promoted by being helpful.

I then pointed out that if the only reason someone is being helpful is so that they can be promoted then that really isn't a deserving motivation.

On the other hand, besides not being true, assuming that everyone is out to get you is not indicitive of someone that is likely to be honestly helpful.

The point is if you want others to cut you a break then try cutting them one, and stop automatically assuming that everything is some kind of insult specifically directed at you.

My evil plan worked! How not to do it!

FYI

People do not get "higher forum access" it is simply cosmetic that is all..

For Sins, at least, there is no benefit whatsoever to ranks anywhere between average new user and moderator.

Now you tell me I'm pouring my efforts into the wrong glass....

WinCustomize is the only site currently where any ranks beyond citizen, and moderator matter.  On WinCustomize certain site functions are restricted to higher-level users (such as rating skins, submitting work without moderator review etc.)  But on sites like JU, ImpulseDriven, Sins, Galciv etc, the ranks don't have any technical purpose.

On GalCiv 2, back when the game was originally in testing, there was a forum only accessible to Diplomat users or higher (rank 3), these were our gamma testers who helped give more directed feedback at the end of the development cycle.  We now have a separate system for private testing that supplanted this.
